Cleaning Drains To Avoid Emergency Plumbing Problems.
Plumbing services that one may demand from an expert in a very short notice or during odd hours of the day or night, on holidays and weekends are called emergency plumbing services. Emergency plumbing services are very expensive but very necessary. Underestimating the scope of a plumbing issue may lead to the demand of very expensive plumbing services hence it is importance to regularly schedule for plumbing services and to have a back-up emergency plumbing service in case of an emergency. Increased utility bills and water wastage can result from emergency plumbing leaks and floods from a burst pipe, running toilets, and leaky faucets. Moulding and bacterial infiltration from emergency sewage and septic tank leaks may put the residents at a health risk.
One can be able to determine if there is a leak in the toilet and call a plumber by adding food colour into the toilet tank, which will reflect the leakage in the toilet bowl if the colour is seen in the bowl. Open pipe which may be due to freezing of the pipes may cause leaks which can be controlled by shutting the valves to close water supply to the areas where the leak is coming from. The open pipes should be fixed before the valves are opened.
One can also minimise an emergency plumbing leak by insulating the pipes that may be exposed to low temperatures to keep them from freezing which leads to splitting up, thawing freezing pipes gently with a blow dryer and cleaning out sediment accumulation in the water heater on a regularly to prevent clogs that restrict hot water supply to the relevant fixtures. One should also avoid pouring boiling water down the toilet as it causes the bowl to crack, throwing big objects, diapers, sanitary towels and toys in the toilet as it causes clogging, planting shrubs and trees over sewer lines, thawing freezing pipes with a naked flame to prevent thermal expansion of water which causes the pipes to bust open and pouring cooking fats, oils and grease down the kitchen’s drain to avoid stubborn blockages which makes drain cleaning extremely difficult.
One should always be on the look for things like slow draining water, large puddles accumulating around the drain, water coming back out of a sink drain, toilet water bubbling when faucet is being used, gurgling noises from drain and foul odours from drain which are the early signs of a clogged drainage.
If you want to clean your drain, begin by pouring a drain cleaner into the drain, wait for 10 minutes then flush hot running water for several minutes into the drain and eventually use a plastic drain snake to pull out any obstructions in the drain.
